Time for a playoff

It is time that NCAA football got a playoff for D1A or Bowl Subdivision or whatever they want to call it now. It is clear that the BCS did not get the 2 best teams. maybe they did and Fla. and Okla. certainly have an impressive resume and are just as deserving as anyone else. But after all the bowls, exluding the mythical championship game, what about Utah, why not Bama even with its loss to Utah. Why not USC, or Texas, or even Ohio State. Even Penn State with their poor showing in the Rose Bowl should have been given a shot.

If they created a playoff, I would recommend a 16 team playoff, why 16? There are 11 conferences and I think that if you win your conf, you should have a shot at the national title. Then I just added 5 at large teams. You can argue the number of teams if you like, but my argument is, if you win your conf, you get a shot. So with my playoff, I took the 11 conf winners, the 5 at large teams were taken from the BCS rankings in order of finish that were not the automatic bids (conf winners). The seedings were based on the BCS rankings.

Here are the 1st round matchups

Oklahoma vs. Troy
Boise State vs. Penn State

USC vs. Cincinnatti
Virginia Tech vs. Alabama

Texas vs. Tulsa
TCU vs. Utah (the only game that may require redrawing the seeds due to both teams being in the Mtn. West)

Texas Tech vs. Ohio State
Buffalo vs. Florida

The above would also be the brackets, so you could see an Oklahoma Penn State game in the 2nd round or a Oklahoma Boise State rematch. A 2nd round USC Alabama game looks inevitable, but Va Tech and Cinci are good teams and could pull off the upsets

This format would give us multiple good matchups and would be fun to watch and the big plus side is we wouldn't have to listen to Pete Carrol, Bob Stoops, and the likes complaining each week about how their team should be ranked #1 or #2 to get into the championship game. This is the biggest plus in my mind.
