A tractor-trailer hauling live chickens crashed near Harrisburg Monday afternoon in an accident that closed the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 and backed up traffic on the highway for several miles.
The truck overturned on the ramp from Interstate 81 northbound to Route 22/322 westbound at approximately 1:40 p.m., dumping the crates of chickens from the overpass onto the highway.
The debris closed both northbound I-81 at Exit 67 and the northbound I-81 ramp to westbound Route 22/322, backing up traffic beyond the George Wade bridge over the Susquehanna River.
The two left lanes of I-81 northbound reopened around 3:00 p.m., but the right lane remains closed in the vicinity of Exit 67, according to PennDOT.
